A quick fix to adjust your auto-play settings, because Google Chrome started blocking auto-play videos in January 2018

I’m back! Yes, I’ve not been updating my site quite as frequently in the past few months.

I’ve tried to stay on top of the To Do List, the MyPoints video list, and the Swagbucks video list. But, I’ve gone through a couple of ugly viruses (health-wise, not computer related) that I don’t want to talk about; and just some other things that came up and took my time away. I am trying to catch up, and will be tending to unanswered questions and requests that I’ve received, (hopefully) very soon.

However, — let’s talk about how the Google Chrome update in January 2018 started blocking auto-play videos.

I’m not even going to pretend to try and understand these changes. But to put it simply, and from what I understand, from now on, Chrome will be blocking videos from auto-playing, blah, blah, blah. And so on, and so forth, and what have you.

They said: “Starting in Chrome 64, autoplay will be allowed when either the media won’t play sound, or the user has indicated an interest in the media. This will allow autoplay to occur when users want media to play, and respect users’ wishes when they don’t.”

Well, anyway…I ran across this very helpful little gem. I did the tweak and now my videos are running much smoother! Since videos with ads and (sometimes) sound are our bread and butter… Well, this is a very helpful find!

This tiny improvement will help with Discovery Media and VideoLoyalty found on several sites: EarnHoney, ClixSense (don’t forget you can earn an additional 16% EVERY SINGLE DAY by completing the checklist!) Earnably, instaGC, QuickRewards, Grindabuck, PrizeRebel and GrabPoints.

The instructions for adjusting your auto-play settings in Google Chrome are very clear and helpful. Thanks to Do Good Media (a.k.a. EarnHoney)! 🙂 Go to this page  and scroll down to:

Quick Summary:

1. Change your preferences to turn on autoplay: chrome://flags/#autoplay-policy

On the dropdown, click on “no use gesture is required.”

Click on “Relaunch”, and viola, you are done!

Well — I think you are done.

I didn’t understand the part where it said “Increase your Media Engagement Index (MEI) for all BuzzTV sites, EarnHoney, and any DiscoveryMedia sites.” I think this is done automatically, when you watch videos like crazy. And yes, this is the time of year when earnings are VERY dried up. It’s not your imagination!

Therefore, I have spent a LOT more time doing mTurk. I’ll make a blog post on Amazon Mechanical Turk some day. If you’ve not yet signed up, do so! They have some VERY easy hits (a hit is a Human Intelligence Task) that require very little effort. The earnings add up VERY quickly!

One last thing. I always play the videos with sound on. When you have several windows running, it can get loud and garbled, so I turn the sound level to 1 or 2. Of course, when a video catches my interest, I mute the other windows for a bit and turn up the sound. You can search for extensions to make this an easy and less laborious process. Muting your videos may impact the amount of ads you receive, making it tougher to earn.

Cheers & peace out everyone!
